Hello Cityvillers. I have a new guide for you help build a great town of your own. Outside of how to procure energy one of the top concerns about cityville is how to handle expansion with the new rules. By following this guide I think you can get yourself on the way to a more spacious city.
Housing Upgrade
Knock down older smaller housing and replace it with more expensive housing that adds even more people. you really don't want to take up too much space with houses that have less than 500 population once you really get the game moving. In a game where cash costs real money, gold can be had with a click, the one true gold in the game is good use of space. Many players ans easily quadruple their population by just changing out houses.
Upgrade storage
Get Access to the grain elevators. This might be a pain because it requires a completing goals it pays off big time. You can put about six in the same space you put on Styx. Each has 700 storage.
In order to do this you have to complete the train collection. Afterward they will appear in the build menu under farming.
Methods to assembling train collection.
Things you might consider deleting to clear space
Roads (Replace them with sidewalks)
Ss long as the sidewalk is connected to at least one piece of road it will connect all of the houses and businesses. Truth be told you could have 1 road piece and build sidewalks in all directions in order to save a huge amount of space.
Farm Land
While it is important to have plenty of farm land to supply businesses it is possible in many cases to knock it back a bit in order to clear up land. Once you pair down your businesses to you top 10 money makers you will not need as much farm land to supply them once or twice a day if you plant high yield crops. (No Strawberries). I prefer cranberries in this case because they get 80 goods and grow in 12 hours. The cranberry collection also provides energy when it is cashed in.
Keep Cinimas and other things that bring earn high profits so that you can make money to buy new housing like Bay Point Duplexes and other higher end housing as well as pay for the expansion fee.
Put these businesses around an Arboretum, Rocky hill or better yet an HQ building if you have the room. Use the business square and then surround these businesses with other decorations in order to increase their profits even more. This method will reduce the need for large farms and save you a ton of energy
(Trust me it is better to have 10-15 high end businesses then 50 coffee shops because you use less energy to make more money.)
Once you have open land
Build new community buildings
Move community buildings away from roads and sidewalks and clear up room for housing. Community buildings do not need to be connected to a road or sidewalk in order to function. Put them as close to each other as possible and keep them out of the way until you have more space for them.
If you need community buildings find space on way or another, remove decorations, HQ buildings what ever it takes otherwise you will not be able to have a chance at expanding.
This method will not look pretty to start with, but after you have the space you want you can knock down the extra housing and put what ever you want up in the space. I for one will be keeping the extra housing and converting mine to high density population housing.
Expanding
First of all since real estate is hard to come by then you need to treat it like a limited asset. You may have to clear out land that you are currently using for a while in order to get a hold of land for community buildings and housing. Housing Upgrade

- Send trains and get rewards when you collect
- Put the items on your wish list Ask Friends to send you mystery gifts
- Put the items on your wish list and send mystery gifts in hopes of getting them back.(mystery gifts occasionally gift you from your wish list)
- Put the items on your wish list and ask friends to send you the items (once a collection is complete nobody needs the items anymore)

Barns and Silos
Not all of them just ones that you can do without once you figure out how many goods you need in order to collect once or twice a day from your top businesses.Low yield businesses
This is all about using your precious energy wisely. Knock down the businesses that don’t make much money like flower shops, coffee shops etc.Keep Cinimas and other things that bring earn high profits so that you can make money to buy new housing like Bay Point Duplexes and other higher end housing as well as pay for the expansion fee.

Once you have open land
- Connect a sidewalk to a road and lay it down in a straight line.
- Build new housing to get your population up. Bay point duplexes will allow you to do this at about 1000 people per every 4 houses. (There are other buildings that give you more population but they just take a lot longer to save up for.)
- Build another sidewalk in front of those houses and repeat step 1 until hit your population limit.
